Oh Nextflix….you’re naughty

My toddler screams to watch ‘Peppa Pig’ on a regular basis; so much so that my sky box has now got that pig and her painfully annoying family on it’s planner.
Ethan jumps, yells and screeches whenever he watches ‘Fairy Odd Parents’- I have never had such excitement myself over a TV show; even though I do enjoy ‘Eastenders’ , the Christmas special just doesn’t have me that excited- ever.
J loves nothing more than curling up and engrossing himself with everything ‘Steve’ has to show him on ‘The Deadly 60’ , he answers the TV and disagrees with ‘Steve’ from time to time but boy is he obsessed with it.
Last night, after the boys went to bed, armed with my glass of wine, I sat against the pile of plumped cushions, my husband had recently plumped in order to soft soak me.
He wanted to play his PlayStation.
He pulled the coffee table towards me, “Put your feet up”, he handed me the sky controller. “Pringles?” he smiled as he opened a fresh tube , “It is still Christmas” he assured me as I eyed the beautiful green tube.
“You hoping to play a game?” I asked, pretending I hadn’t noticed his efforts.
“Yeah, thought you might have some soaps to catch up on , or one of your documentaries to watch or maybe a bit of writing…” His hopeful eyes met mine. “Will I get ya your IPad?”
I nodded. Secretly I was hoping I could have the TV all to myself, I didn’t want to share the TV choices tonight.
I watched D set up his game , he collapsed into the armchair, headphones on and a wide smile across his face.
I wanted that… that feeling.
I had had a long long day of tantrums, meltdowns and toy throwing …I just wanted to do nothing but to be engaged while doing nothing…I know, that is a lot to ask, but all my boys could do it, why couldn’t I?!
My IPad sat next to me, after flicking through a million channels I concluded nothing was on!
I turned to my IPad , I knew writing wasn’t going to happen as I hadn’t had the ‘urge’ to write anything since I had eaten my weight in snowballs over the feastive , festive, I mean festive period!
And so I turned on Netflix.
“Making a Murderer” was my suggested viewing…I hit play.
Over the next 4 hours,(yes I binged watched) I had the same level of excitement as Ethan, J and even the toddler shows when watching their programmes.
I had a full blown conversation with myself…
“AH COME ON LADS….”

“WHAT! ARE THEY F**KING KIDDING ME?”

“HELLO..YA DON’T HAVE TO BE A DETECTIVE TO FIGURE THAT OUT”

“I CAN’T F**KING BELIEVE THIS!”

“I’M GOING TO GOOGLE THIS..NO NO I’LL WAIT ‘TIL I’M DONE…YEAH..NO…YEAH”

“THAT’S IT , YE HAVE THEM NOW LADS”

“INADMISSIBLE ME ARSE!”
I finally had something to engage me..and engage me it did.
D had to remind me a few times to quieten down…
Netflix isn’t my go to thing…while I love documentaries and films, I’ve never really found a Netflix original series that engaged me until now..
So to you guys out there, who like most parents/ adults, need something to watch which will engage you -…”Making a Murderer” will do far more than engage you, it will insist you lash out at the TV, it will encourage you to yell, it will make you believe you could easily be a detective or a lawyer…and it will most certainly give you a valid reason to binge watch!
And that my dear reader is how this mammy has been spending her last two evenings…
There are catches however:
You can’t even think about watching this anywhere near a child (which will leave you debating if 6pm is really too early for bedtime)
You cannot discuss it with anyone who hasn’t seen it yet.
You may leave an imprint of your bottom on your couch …as your body screams ‘bedtime’ your brain will insist, ‘one more won’t harm ya’
You will suddenly become an expert, in all things related to the law!
And finally, you will want… need…crave more….
In that case check out ‘The Jinx’…I’ve just started it …I’ll only watch the one…ah yeah..two is plenty…three would only bring me up to 11pm…sure why not?!
